Turning a four-country philanthropic activation into a real-time storytelling campaign.
Beyond the Instrument is Sony Music Group’s annual philanthropic initiative expanding access to music technology education in high-need schools within historically excluded communities. In 2026, the program grew to four regions (US, Panama, UK, and Canada), with SMG-roster artists partnering with local nonprofits on hands-on activations at each market’s schools.
As the digital content lead, I owned the storytelling strategy across SMG’s owned channels, working with the global philanthropy team and each artist’s label and management to surface key moments from every activation into editorial pieces and a coordinated social rollout, including caption copy pitched directly to artists.
Previously, the program’s digital presence relied on a single recap video, often published well after the fact. I restructured the approach: real-time photos immediately following each activation, a recap video once ready, and a dedicated editorial per activation for deeper storytelling.
The result was a more timely, cross-platform campaign that captured the initiative’s global scale as it happened, driving organic amplification as artists and nonprofit partners reshared content beyond SMG’s owned platforms.
